We have approximately 40 logistics researchers, analysts, other specialists, and support staffers on hand whose sole purpose is to deliver to you--our customer--the best possible analyses of logistics issues and challenges in order to improve Agile Combat Support for the warfighter. Our professionals are widely recognized for having the right skills and years of experience to help resolve even the toughest Air Force logistical problems. Our officers hold advanced academic degrees, and we're striving for the same in our enlisted force wherever possible. Also, most of our officers have their advanced degrees from the Air Force Institute of Technology in logistics management or operations research. This equips them to tackle the myriad of issues they're asked to solve shortly after their AFLMA arrival and orientation. Furthermore, we're extremely fortunate to have select officers and civilians with PhDs which, in our opinion, is a force multiplier and lends further credence to the outstanding work we do for our customers.
Additionally, we pride ourselves on being an "honest broker," presenting the facts and solutions as we discovered and analyzed them. We will not produce a report whereby we were asked to provide a given solution unless the data and our analysis fully support it. We take on a problem and let the research and analyses dictate where we will pursue our solutions.
Our AFLMA Command Staff personnel have extensive logistics, functional area, and analytical experience: 20 years or more in many cases. Additionally, they have extensive field experience as well as staff and command experience, which they use to guide our project managers as they work to solve logistical problems you ask us to take on.
Our people are our strength. The AFLMA has a representative force of professionals, and skills that constitute a significant Air Force resource. With education and expertise in maintenance, munitions, contracting, readiness, science and supply disciplines, we're fully capable to handle your tough challenges. |

Agency History:
In late 1975, the Air Force established the Air Force Logistics Management Center at Gunter Air Force Station, Alabama. It was created in response to a need to centrally manage logistics study improvement efforts and concentrate management emphasis on enhancing combat effectiveness. AFLMC was renamed the Air Force Logistics Management Agency (AFLMA) in 1993. Its charter was, and still is, to solve logistics problems. Since its inception, AFLMA has provided a continuing study, analysis, and development capability to the Air Force logistics community. Tackling and solving the toughest Air Force logistics problems remain the focus of the Agency today. From its beginnings as the Air Force Logistics Management Center, the AFLMA has grown to be recognized for its excellence. To maintain its recognized high standard of excellence and continue providing the highest quality support to the Air Force logistics community, the Agency has developed strong working relationships with RAND and the Logistics Management Institute. Additionally, the AFLMA has forged partnering and teaming efforts with a variety of other Air Force, public, and private sector organizations.
Organization:
The AFLMA is a Field Operating Agency, or FOA, assigned to HQ USAF/A4I and located at the Gunter Annex of Maxwell AFB, Alabama. As noted above, first and foremost it is a logistics problem-solving organization. The AFLMA uses a broad range of functional, analytical, and scientific expertise to tackle the toughest logistics problems facing the Air Force and produces solutions that improve both combat and war-winning capability. Naturally, the AFLMA makes these specialized problem-solving capabilities available to every logistician in the Air Force.
Resources:
The AFLMA's key strength is its people. Our people are handpicked professionals from logistics functions, operational analysis sections, and computer programming shops. Most Agency personnel have advanced degrees, and a few have their doctorates. In addition, we have state-of-the-art computer support, analysis, and simulation capabilities. This combination of skilled people, advanced equipment, and analysis capabilities gives us the ability to tackle the toughest Air Force logistics problems. It also gives us the capability to provide thorough and accurate reports in a relatively quick time frame.
Advanced Technology:
With ever-changing technological advances, the AFLMA is proud to have the scientific capability and computer technology to aid in solving many complicated logistical problems. We take advantage of the latest Air Force approved hardware and software. We utilize various proven commercial-off-the-shelf applications for mathematical modeling, statistical and predictive analysis, and data mining.
Air Force Logistics Studies Workshop (AFLSW):
The purpose of the AFLSW is to provide supply data for AFLMA analysis in support of current and ongoing studies that will lead to logistics improvements in supply, maintenance, contracting, transportation, and wartime planning. Our Logistics Readiness branch collects monthly transaction history data from all Air Force host supply accounts and the satellites they support worldwide for the AFLSW. In addition, we import quarterly Standard Base Supply System data, including the item, detail, repair cycle, and miscellaneous records. AFLSW also provides added capability to the Air Force by providing Air Force Materiel Command and other customers with this data on a monthly basis. |
